Live review | Chicago Symphony Orchestra + Hubbard Street Dance Chicago | “Afterwork Masterworks”
Doyle Armbrust and Zachary Whittenburg share their takes on the latest from an eight-year partnership between two of Chicago’s flagship cultural institutions.
The eighth edition of Hubbard Street’s joint concerts with the CSO at Symphony Center kicked off April 27 with “Afterwork Masterworks,” an eclectic 90-minute program of live music and dance. Writer and violist Doyle Armbrust and TOC Dance editor Zachary Whittenburg attended the performance together, comparing notes afterward over potstickers and pints.
The series continues Thursday 28 through Tuesday 3, adding Vivaldi’s concerto “alla rustica,” his Oboe Concerto in F Major, RV. 455, and an intermission. Nicholas McGegan conducts.
