Tonight at 7pm, IIT's Institute of Design (350 N LaSalle St, sixth floor) hosts its "End of Year Show" of student and faculty research and design work. The show includes a walk-in installation, the Knowledge Box, which was originally developed as a 1962 class project by visiting lecturer Ken Isaacs and his students. Open by appointment through Sun 13.

As part of Version Fest, the Salon Series comes to MN Gallery (3524 S Halsted St). Alex Menocal (1–3pm), Sabina Ott (4–6pm) and Leslie Baum (7–9pm) speak about their work.
The South Side Community Art Center's panel "LOOK Within: Collective Origins and Inspirations: Women and African Art" brings together Dr. Robert Starks, Dayo Layoe, Diabby Diarra and Patrick Woodtor to discuss feminine ideals and imagery in African art from 2–5pm.
Andrew Rafacz Gallery opens "Greg Stimac: The Long Stare" and "The Octopus," an installation by L.A. artists Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe, from 4–7pm.
Kavi Gupta Gallery unveils new works by Scott Reeder and Berlin-based artist Henning Strassburger from 4–7pm.
From 6–10pm, High Concept Laboratories (1401 W Wabansia Ave) highlights Maria Jönsson's show “Lawn Sculpture” as Coppice (Noé Cuéllar & Joseph Kramer) presents its new album The Pleasance & The Purchase as well as an 8pm live performance on pump organ and electronics. Additional viewing hours Sun 13, noon–5pm.
Happy Collaborationists (1254 N Noble St) opens "Olivia Valentine: 1:1" from 6–10pm. The show includes a site-specific installation and recent small-scale works developed through Valentine's 2011 ACRE residency. Open by appointment through May 26.

ADDS DONNA hosts a closing reception for "Alison Ruttan: Natural Disaster" from 1–5pm.
"Eunhyea Choi: Crossing Space" opens at ACRE Projects (1913 W 17th St), 4-8pm. Choi developed her new works involving light through her 2011 ACRE residency. Additional viewing hours Mon 14, noon–4pm.
