Art and Design | This week’s late-breaking art events

There are supposed to be more than 125 Art & Design events happening this weekend—check our listings for details—but please note that some venues are making last-minute decisions to close due to the NATO summit, so double-check before heading out. (The Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Contemporary Art are both closed Sat 19–Mon 21. Around Town editor Madeline Nusser has compiled a list of other museum closures here.) Silver Galleon Press presents "The Anarchist Cookbook Lite" (part of the Phase 1 / Live Archive and Outreach Center that Jason Lazarus organized for Version Fest) at 3217 South Morgan Street, 6–11pm, as well as Sat 19, noon–5pm. This multimedia installation "considers the fraught relationships between art, popular culture, activism and politics" through publications and related artifacts. On Sat 19 at noon, Bill Ayers leads a discussion about "the intersection of art and politics/resistance."
65Grand opens "Brian Kapernekas: 40,000 Fathoms Before the Eye," 6–9pm.
Alderman Exhibitions hosts "Nearer to Know Less: Performances by Husband, Robby MacBain and Hannah Verrill" at 7:30pm, $5 suggested donation. The program, which is organized by Original Features (Benjamin Chaffee and Samantha Topol) will be repeated Sat 19 at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

The Chicago Printmakers Collaborative kicks off its fifth annual $20 Cash 'N Carry Print and Poster Sale, featuring works by Jay Ryan, Amos Kennedy Jr., Sanya Glisic and many others, noon–6pm.
Lillstreet Art Center's Summer Open House offers workshops galore, noon–4pm.
Shane Campbell Gallery opens "Verena Dengler, Ellen Gronemeyer, Helena Huneke and Alex Olson," 6–8pm.

At the Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University's Department of Art Theory & Practice re-creates Allan Kaprow's Happening, Fluids, starting at 1pm. (Show up at noon if you want to participate. A 4pm ceremony includes readings from Kaprow's writings on art and everyday life.) The Block Museum will tweet photo updates at @NUBlockMuseum, #fluids.
