"Tom Torluemke: Fearsome Fable—Tolerable Truth."
Event Info: (773) 324-5520 hydeparkart.org
Torluemke evokes WPA murals in this installation of double-sided paintings, which visitors can rotate to reveal American landscapes either thriving, or reeling from environmental degradation. Accompanying all-black sculptures depict people and animals who look as if they have been incinerated or suffocated by an oil spill. Despite the artist’s technical skills, the show feels banal in comparison to his Depression-era inspiration. Through Apr 28.—Philip Hartigan
