Cheryl Pope "Just Yell" at moniquemeloche: Art review
In her latest exhibition, "Just Yell" at moniquemeloche, Chicago artist Cheryl Pope creates an environment in which gallerygoers can connect, both emotionally and physically, to victims of gun violence. Her works aim to humanize young victims of violence, memories of whom too often fade as quickly as their faces from the TV screen during the evening news. Pope's exhibition uses innovative, but not exploitative, approaches to jar viewers out of this emotional detachment, such as a high school trophy case filled with names and works by murdered students.
