Annoyance Theatre ends Uptown run this week
The Annoyance Theatre is ending its seven-year run in Uptown with a moving party on Sunday, August 25, before checking out of its space at 4830 N Broadway. The comedy institution is planning a move to 851 W Belmont Ave in Lakeview, where, unlike in the current space, it will be able to house performance spaces and classrooms under the same roof (Annoyance currently rents classroom space down the street from the theater). In its new home this fall, the Annoyance will join the Playground Theater, the Laugh Factory and ComedySportz within a four-block stretch, making the Belmont Red Line station quite a hot stop for comedy. The party starts at 6pm Sunday. For more on the Annoyance's history, revisit our piece on the theater's 25th anniversary last year, with reminiscences from Mick Napier, Matt Walsh, Andy Richter, Vanessa Bayer and more.
Also worth checking out this weekend: The Upstairs Gallery goes all out for A Jangleheart Circus, a three-night, three-theater, three-ring fest of improv and sketch at the Den Theatre in Wicker Park beginning tonight. The lineup is packed with talent from UG house teams and out-of-town guests; check out the complete schedule here.
