50 Collective to pass through Chicago this Sunday

50 Collective
Be part of an international dance road-trip at 6pm this Sunday, May 8 at DEFIBRILLATOR, when 50 Collective visits Chicago as part of its Passing Through project. Fifty movers of all stripes, hailing from 29 countries, formed the collective last year, dancing their way through Cuba, Holland, Iceland, Italy, Slovenia and Spain. (The concept was sparked by David Zambrano, the gravity-mocking, Flying-Low Technique originator of whom local dance whiz and TOC fave Michel Rodriguez is an acolyte.) There’s a $10 suggested donation for the event, with inks-dray and an arty-pay after their erformance-pay.
Eleven of the 50 are its U.S.-touring subset; after Chicago, they go on to dance, teach and bring people together in Denver, L.A., Portland and Seattle. You can also follow them on Twitter, for updates and good-natured gems like this and like this.
In addition, from 10am–noon on Saturday, May 7, you can get in on a workshop with the group at Lou Conte Dance Studio in the Hubbard Street Dance Center. Call 312-850-9744 for more details; the cost is $20.
