Field Museum celebration honors couples married for 50 years
For a third consecutive year, the Field Museum is hosting its 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration. On December 1, brides and grooms who said "I do" in 1962 are invited to renew their vows. One caveat: Couples will have to prove they're lawfully wedded with a marriage certificate, an old wedding invitation, or a dated newspaper clipping.
The inaugural celebration was held in conjunction with the museum's 2010 "Gold" exhibit. This year's gathering coincides with the "Maharaja: The Splendor of India's Royal Courts." Free basic admission is offered to anniversary couples with a purchase of ticket to "Maharaja." At 1pm, Golden Anniversary celebrants gather for the vow renewal ceremony, complete with boutonniere and rose pinning, followed by a Champagne toast and cake. The festivity is sealed with a smooch, of course. The Field Museum, Stanley Field Hall, 1400 S Lake Shore Dr (312-665-1707, maharaja.fieldmuseum.org). Dec 1 at 10am–2pm; $9.
