Different city. Same bad jokes.

Chris Rock and Julie Delpy in 2 Days in New York
When last we saw Marion, the flighty French-born photographer Julie Delpy played in her own 2 Days in Paris, she was still trying to patch things up with Jack, her nebbishy, combative New York boyfriend. So much for that guy: Jack is gone and Mingus (a remarkably restrained Chris Rock) is in for Delpy’s five-years-later sequel, which inverts the Meet the Parents plot of the original by having Marion’s boorish French relatives come to visit her. Alas, swapping cities has done little to spice up Delpy’s sitcomish take on culture clash and familial tensions. For scattered laughs, look only to Rock’s beleaguered boyfriend, trying to keep his cool among these nattering, Gallic couch crashers. We share his pain.
