Dir. Pablo Trapero. 2004. N/R. 103mins. In Spanish with subtitles. Liliana Capurro, Graciana Chironi, Ruth Dobel. Federico Esquerro.
Audiences who flocked to the art house–devouring soul-suck known as Little Miss Sunshine might consider Trapero’s serviceable Argentine festival fave—about an insanely extended family traveling to a wedding—as an earthier, homegrown alternative. It’s a road-trip movie that places the emphasis on meandering, with no lessons to speak of and few cutesies—just a couple of thwarted hookups (with significant others, mostly…), as well as a final shot subtly stressing that family annoyances aren’t all that bad—at least when compared to loneliness.—Ben Kenigsberg
