Amber Heard: interview outtakes
In advance of NBC’s The Playboy Club, which premieres tonight at 9pm, I recently spoke with Amber Heard, who plays Bunny Maureen. As we chatted about her remarks at last year’s GLAAD Awards about the importance of being out, I noted that at the ceremony Heard, an award presenter, was introduced as, “The future—Amber Heard.” Does she feel she’s part of a new wave of young actors in Hollywood for whom being out is just not the big deal it used to be, or still is, for older generations? Here’s Heard’s response, which doesn’t appear in the published interview: “That’s the thing I wanted to make clear. When I decided to be a more public part of the LGBT community, a part of this social reform that is taking place, I believe, in this nation, when I set out to commit to that, I wanted to represent and believe that I am representing a new younger generation of individuals who are much more resilient to ignorance and much more off-put by bigotry and are much stronger because they see themselves as a more connected part of a global community.” An emphatic yes, then.
The Playboy Club premieres tonight at 9pm.
