Critics’ picks, December 6–12, 2012

Jeremy Renner makes an excellent replacement Bourne.

Published: December 6, 2012

1. The Bourne Legacy
Dir. Tony Gilroy. 2012. PG-13. 134mins. Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton.

“Where are the chems?” Renner takes over for Matt Damon, bringing a jittery, much-needed human dimension to the superspy franchise. Available on demand widely Tue 11.

2. Ted
Dir. Seth MacFarlane. 2012. R. 106mins. Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, voice of MacFarlane.

As with MacFarlane’s Family Guy, the jokes are hit or miss. Still, there were few comic teams this year more endearing than Wahlberg, Kunis and a foul-mouthed teddy bear. Available on demand widely Tue 11.

3. King Kelly
Dir. Andrew Neel. 2012. N/R. 87mins. Louisa Krause, Libby Woodbridge, Roderick Hill.

A Web-porn star (Krause) has a night to remember in this YouTube send-up, filmed entirely on cell phones and consumer-grade cameras, often by its cast. Available on demand widely.
