Saw V
The killings are sadistic and gory, which is all you can ask for this late in the franchise. Screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan manage to keep Jigsaw (Bell) in the picture even though he’s dead. The games begin when FBI agent Strahm (Patterson) discovers the carnage left at the end of Saw IV, only to be forced to endure his own sadistic ordeal. He survives, but rival detective Hoffman (Mandylor) gets the credit. Realizing that Hoffman was Jigsaw’s accomplice-protégé, Strahm revisits earlier crime scenes in search of evidence, while five new victims are put to the test. Arguably even more of a phenomenon on home video than in theaters, the Saw movies always get deluxe DVD treatment, and this one’s no exception. The package includes multiple commentary tracks, an editing seminar and details on the many killing traps. It’s everything you’d ever need to know to start your own career in pain.
