“Beyond Baseball: The Life of Roberto Clemente”

It’s worth stopping by the new Puerto Rican Arts Alliance space, a lovingly rehabbed fire station.

Roberto Clemente in 1968

Inside the newly opened exhibition space of the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, “Beyond Baseball: The Life of Roberto Clemente” winds around the first- and second-floor galleries in colorful text panels. The traveling display—a collaboration between the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and the Smithsonian—skims the surface of the great Pittsburgh Pirates right fielder’s life, prizing emotional rhetoric over detailed descriptions of Clemente’s notable charity work. It’s still worth stopping by the sparkling space, a lovingly rehabbed fire station at the northern tip of Logan Square.
