Earth Day Party for the Planet
The zoo comes alive for Earth Day with a full bill of family-friendly entertainment: Check out live music, theater, Earth Day cake decorating, zoo chats and oak tree sapling giveaways. Earth Day Parks & Preserves Clean Up
FREE Get to know your eco-conscious neighbors while beautifying your hood’s green space at Friends of the Park’s annual Earth Day clean up. After getting your hands dirty, head to one of two parties at Humboldt Park Boathouse (1359 N Sacramento Blvd at Humboldt Dr) from noon to 2pm, or the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve (6600 N Caldwell Ave at Loleta Ave) from 1 to 3pm. Green Scene Eco-Fest
FREE We’ve got to hand it to the kids at North Side Prep—they were about a year ahead of the curve in hosting a green event. Their Eco-Fest, presented by the school’s student-run Community for Alternative Sources of Energy nonprofit org, returns this year with a mission of highlighting ways in which local businesses and organizations can work with the community to promote green thinking. The day also includes plenty of food and goods from green vendors; hands-on activities; speakers; a clothes swap; a book, DVD and video game swap; green cooking demos and screenings; and more. Earth Day Celebration featuring Green Apple Music and Arts Festival
FREE For the second year now, the LPZ presents this all-ages, carbon-neutral concert. This year’s lineup features Meshell Ndegeocello, the Derek Trucks Band, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Chicago Afrobeat Project and more. Other offerings include organic-food vendors, zoo presentations, docent-led tours, keeper chats, arts and crafts, bird walks and interactive demos. Rock and Ride Earth Day Benefit Concert
The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation has partnered with Sophic Records for an Earth Day concert on Sunday 20.
