Time and space
Four decades ago, three men tucked inside a spacecraft were the first to lay eyes on the far side of the moon. Lucky for us, North Shore resident James Lovell, left, was one of the pilots aboard the groundbreaking Apollo 8 mission. After several more space flights (including the Apollo 13, immortalized by Tom Hanks’s cinematic portrayal), Lovell donated his flight ephemera to the Adler Planetarium (1300 S Lake Shore Dr). For the 40th anniversary of Apollo 8, the Adler highlights Lovell’s artifacts from that early flight along with moon-themed space talks and membership giveaways from Saturday 20 to January 4.
