Your perfect weekend
Sunday, Jan 17

You don’t have to be in the Fringe Division to have wondered whether thoughts can change the physical world. See what some paranormal-curious folks think at a screening of Something Unknown Is Doing We Don’t Know What (Unity in Chicago, 1925 W Thome Ave, 773-973-0007; 3–5:30pm, $10), a documentary from the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a group that explores “the powers of the consciousness.” Heavy.
Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by summoning the civil-rights leader’s fiery idealism through music and dance. Chicago Sinfonietta’s annual tribute to MLK, “A Dream Unfolds” (Dominican University, Lund Auditorium, 7900 W Division St, River Forest; 312-236-3681; 2:30pm; $26–$40), features diverse works ranging from Four Negro Spirituals for Orchestra and Soprano to Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” Guests include Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre and Metropolitan Opera members.
