The Museum of Science and Industry opened the “Greenest Home in Chicago” back in 2008, expecting the modular house to live on its east lawn for about a year. But tearing it down wouldn’t be green, would it? The home gets a fresh rehab for the third year courtesy of Midwest Living magazine. This go-round, the emphasis is on local producers, existing (albeit, cutting-edge) green technology and sleek, adult-oriented design. One especially creative touch: The museum reused a dead tree on its property to make three tables designed by local furniture makers.
