Casting announced for Gary Griffin's Follies at Chicago Shakes
Chicago Shakespeare Theater has announced partial casting for its revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's Follies, about former follies girls reuniting in their soon-to-be-demolished theater. The lead couples will be portrayed by Brent Barrett and Caroline O'Connor as Ben and Phyllis, and Robert Petkoff and Susan Moniz as Buddy and Sally. As Carlotta, Hollis Resnik will sing "I'm Still Here"; additional cast members include Mike Nussbaum (Weissman), Nancy Voigts (Stella Deems), Marilynn Bogetich (Hattie Walker), Kathy Taylor (Solange LaFitte), Dennis Kelly and Ami Silvestre (Theodore and Emily Whitman), Bill Chamberlain (Roscoe) and ensemble members Adrian Aguilar, Jen Donohoo, Jenny Guse, Amanda Kroiss and Christina Myers. Additional casting, including for the younger versions of Ben, Phyllis, Buddy and Sally, remains to be determined.
Gary Griffin's production, set for a limited five-week run October 4–November 6 in CST's Courtyard mainstage, will coincide with a major Broadway revival of the musical; the production that originated at D.C.'s Kennedy Center earlier this year begins rehearsals today for a Broadway transfer. The Broadway production will star Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, Ron Raines and Danny Burstein.
