Lance Baker to perform Mike Daisey's The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs
Days after monologuist Mike Daisey posted a transcript of his long-form piece The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, making it available for unrestricted download and royalty-free performance, A Red Orchid Theatre announced this afternoon that ensemble member Lance Baker will perform it on Monday, March 5.
Daisey's new play, about his experience as an Apple fanboy traveling to China to observe labor conditions at the sprawling Foxconn facility that manufactures all sorts of iDevices (as well as smartphones for many non-Apple brands), is thematically well matched to A Red Orchid's current production of Brett Neveu's dystopian-industrial comedy Megacosm. A version of Agony/Ecstasy was featured on a much talked-about episode of This American Life last month; Daisey's currently performing it in an encore run at New York's Public Theater. Tickets to A Red Orchid's production ($20) are available by calling the box office at 312-943-8722.
