Pine Box Theater sets The Jammer, 25 Saints for 2012 season
Pine Box Theater has plans to produce the roller derby comedy The Jammer and a new play, 25 Saints, as part of the company's 2012 season.
The Jammer, by Rolin Jones (The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow), was an award winner at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe; set in the idealized 1950s, it concerns a Brooklyn galoot who joins the roller derby circuit against the wishes of his fiancée and his priest. Pine Box artistic director Vincent Teninty helms a cast that includes Bill Bannon, Sara Gorsky, Kersten Haile, Amy Jean Johnson, James Earl Jones II, Miguel Nunez, Josh Odor, Greg Rothman, Levenix Riddle and Eliza Shin (May 19–July 1 at the Athenaeum Theatre). Tickets go on sale this Sunday, April 1, at pineboxtheater.org or by calling the Athenaeum box office (773-935-6875).
Ensemble member Joshua Rollins (A Girl with Sun in Her Eyes) pens 25 Saints, about a pair of Appalachian meth peddlers experiencing a very bad night. Susan E. Bowen will direct for an October opening (exact dates, venue and casting to be determined).
