A Red Orchid Theatre's 2012–13 season to feature Neveu, Shepard, Baker and Korder
A Red Orchid Theatre's next season, its 20th, will include a new play by ensemble member Brett Neveu, Chicago premieres by Annie Baker and Howard Korder and the company's first production of a work by Sam Shepard, the latter of which will feature founding ensemble members Michael Shannon and Guy Van Swearingen.
The season is set to open with Neveu's new boxing drama, The Opponent, also featuring Van Swearingen and to be directed by Karen Kessler (October 18–December 2). It's followed by the much-anticipated Chicago bow of Baker's The Aliens, set in the same Vermont town as herand . Shade Murray directs (January 17–March 3).
A Red Orchid's other founding ensemble member, Larry Grimm, will star in In a Garden, a Middle East allegory by Boys' Life and The Hollow Lands author Korder (April 4–May 19). Ensemble member Dado will direct Shannon and Van Swearingen in Simpatico, Shepard's 1994 tale of con artists in the horse-racing world (June 13–July 28). Subscriptions, which run $85 for the first three plays or $135 with the addition of Simpatico, are on sale now.
