Latino Theatre Festival to return to Goodman in 2013

Henry Godinez
The Latino Theatre Festival will return to the Goodman Theatre for a sixth iteration in the spring of 2013, the theater announced today. Unlike in years past, the festival, curated by Henry Godinez (pictured), will be spread over several months.
The previously announced world premiere of Quiara Alegría Hudes's The Happiest Song Plays Last, a sequel to this year's Pulitzer Prize winner Water by the Spoonful, will be a tentpole of the festival (April 13–May 12). Other currently announced elements are a return visit by Cuba's Teatro Buendía, performing Pedro Parámo, a magical realist piece inspired by Juan Rulfo's novel (March 22–March 31), and an encore presentation of Albany Park Theatre Project's much-acclaimed Home/Land, about immigrant families in Chicago (June 20–30). Additional programming will be announced at a later date. The most recent edition of the festival, previously presented every two years, took place in the summer of 2010.
