Sunday, Sunday, "Sunday": Cast members from Chicago Shakespeare Theater's Sunday in the Park with George greeted visitors yesterday morning at the Art Institute of Chicago with an in-character performance of the show's Act I closer, "Sunday." The Pulitzer Prize–winning 1984 musical is inspired by Georges Seurat's pointillist painting A Sunday on La Grande Jatte—1884, which has been part of the Art Institute's permanent collection since 1926.
The actors performed in costume as the subjects of Seurat's painting, in front of a replica painting with the musical's characters removed (created by digital photography artist Michael Lande). The cast members then boarded a trolley headed for Navy Pier. Our photographer was on hand for the event. Sunday in the Park with George plays the pier September 26–November 4.
It's okay to be a show-off.
