Griffin Theatre announces Spelling Bee, summer reading series
Griffin Theatre Company says it will open its 25th season this fall with the musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, by Rachel Sheinkin and William Finn. Scott Weinstein, who recently directed She Kills Monsters, the breakout hit of this year's Steppenwolf Garage Rep, for Buzz22 Chicago, will helm the production with music direction by Matt Deitchman. Spelling Bee will run October 26–December 15 at Theater Wit.
As a kickoff to the season, Griffin will present two weekends of outdoor staged readings in the parking lot of its future home (1940 W Foster Ave) in August. Admission for each is a $10 suggested donation, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic spreads. The full lineup is after the jump.
