Sting musical The Last Ship to premiere in Chicago
The Last Ship, a new musical by the pop star Sting and writers John Logan (Red) and Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal), will have its pre-Broadway tryout in Chicago next summer, producers announced today.
The long in-the-works musical in the 1980s, in the shipyards of Wallsend, England, on the outskirts of Sting's hometown of Newcastle. Joe Mantello (Wicked) is attached to direct, with choreography by Steven Hoggett (Once). The Last Ship is set to play the Bank of America Theatre June 10–July 13, ahead of a planned fall opening on Broadway at a theater to be determined. The production will be part of Broadway in Chicago's spring subscription season. Sting has a new album of the same name due out next Tuesday, September 24.
