Years ago, I wrote about a world famous avant-garde performance pair of which I had never heard (nor had anyone in Washington, D.C.) known as something like Thomas and Ruhler—but Japan-born, NYC-based duo Eiko and Koma, legends whether you’ve heard of them or not, are the real thing. The Butoh-influenced movement artists performed Naked on Friday, June 24 at the MCA, and TOC was on hand to document the event.
Eiko & Koma’s final performance of Naked, until its encore November 8–13, . Admission is free. The accompanying exhibition and retrospective of their career, Time Is Not Even, Space Is Not Empty, remains on display in the MCA’s galleries until November 13.
It's okay to be a show-off.
