MilkMilkLemonade will flow from Pavement Group in March 2011
Following up its work on what I deemed the best production of last winter's inaugural Garage Rep at Steppenwolf, Pavement Group artistic director David Perez has confirmed that his company will produce the Chicago premiere of MilkMilkLemonade next spring. New York playwright Joshua Conkel's dark, playful comedy, which frames issues of growing up gay in rural America through some of the tropes of children's theater (but is very much meant for adults), received rave reviews in its Off-Off Broadway debut last year at UNDER St. Marks in Manhattan's East Village (pictured). MilkMilkLemonade was partially developed via a reading with Pavement Group; I saw neither that reading nor the New York production (which is currently being remounted in Queens), but having read an early version of the script, I've been thirsting for a Chicago production. Pavement Group's MilkMilkLemonade, directed by Cassy Sanders, will run March 17–April 17 at Chicago Dramatists.
