Brooklyn-based, Russian-born DJ Vadim has jumped with both feet and turntables into the realm of live soundsystem performance with the throwback outfit The Electric. That the trio features Chicago MC Pugs Atomz and London vegan vocalist Sabira Jade (and live keys)— making it a true international hip-hop collaboration, not just a digital file-sharing collab. The outfit has gradually built up a solid foothold in the more granola end of the clubby hip-hop scene, but honestly, its throwback beats and rhymes beat the heck out of a lot of the newer electro hip-hop going around. In any case, the Kinetic Playground was kicking it (somewhat) old school this past weekend and Time Out Chicago was in the house.
