Today's continually pleasant surprise: Bands that sound better onstage than on record. Typically, it does not work this way with Pitchfork bands. Twin Sister's EPs quietly motor away like a homespun Stereolab. Live, the band retains a touch of that twee krautrock, but grooves in a more dubby dream-disco vein. Oddly, delightfully, my recollections kept jumping between the Sugarcubes and Beach House.

Singer Andrea Estella would be the Bjork/Victoria Legrand in that equation. (There is no Einar Orn in this analogy. Whew.) She looked and sang like a mermaid, with waist-length aquamarine hair and a white shipwrecked dress. Her reedy voice hiccuped and flitted over deep bass grooves and feathery washes of wah-wah. Material from the upcoming In Heaven leaped into even more extroverted dance-club territory, and if it wasn't for their stage banter, I'd swear they were Swedish.

As the lovely ode to wanderlust, "All Around and Away We Go," got the crowd bobbing in the breeze beneath the shade, Odd Future's opening hate-salvos bled in from another stage. Let those idiots cook in the sun.
