The reliably strong Baltimore duo ended up providing the perfect mid-afternoon chill down set before Lightning Bolt's brutal beats kicked off on the A stage. Playing a hefty dose of tracks from its lovely third album, Teen Dream, with a few Devotion hits scattered in for good measure, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally's Mazzy Star-esque dream pop (anchored by a live drummer) was as shipshape as ever. You could tell the band has been on a hardcore tour schedule. Legrand was in top form vocalwise. Her warm, syrupy singing floated just above Scally's guitar and her keyboard, over which she would occasionally fling her tangled, curly mass of hair like a seasoned metaller— proof that you don't have to hit hard to rock the hell out.
