Logan Square gets a new record store, saki
We heard the economy was on the upswing, but this still comes as a surprise. Chicago is getting a new record store. Carrot Top Ltd., the local long-running indie distributor, is opening up an honest-to-god physical retail store for tangible music product at 3716 W. Fullterton (just west of Central Park).
Dubbed saki (they're using the lowercase), after the owner's dead cat, the shop opens on May 29th. DJs from CHIRP and local psych guru Plastic Crimewave will be on hand to smash the champagne bottle (er, rice wine?). saki also promises "local celebrity guest appearances, in-store performances, giveaways, an art exhibit and more." Archer Prewitt of the Coctails and the Sea & Cake designed the logo.
Permanent Records has done a great job of establishing itself with in-stores and a cozier atmosphere. It should be interesting to see how saki can chip away at Reckless' hold on the local market.
