Lollaparties: Satisfaction Guaranteed
Lollapalooza hasn't kicked off yet—but the Lolla party season has. Saturday night, Diesel sponsored a free event at LaSalle Power Co. with live duos in club-friendly sets and electro and hip-hop DJs finishing things out. While it required a wristband from the Diesel store to get in and therefore more than a bit of advance planning, the turnout was better than respectable—it was solid. Electro cuties Moneypenny got a leg up on their "Lipstick Revolution" with a live set of laptop and vocals—at this stage, the duo has more stage presence than memorable cuts. He Say She Say turned in the best set I've from it yet—even if Mano still hogs the microphone a bit too much between tracks. And the fellas from Dark Wave Disco had the dance floor suitably excited with loud, rockin' mixes when I made my exit. Too early for a Lolla event? Not really—there were plenty of folks in the crowd in town for the fest and more than a few music-biz types there settling in to the Chicago summer. Didn't make it? Glitterguts documented the event in a photobooth.
