White Denim + Mazes at Schubas | Photo galley

White Denim may enjoy the critical plaudits of 100% of the TOC music staff and the Austin band can sell out Schubas comfortably on a summer Friday night, but this past weekend it had to contend with a rare act of god scenario. Just around showgoing time of 9:30–10pm, Chicago was hit with extreme weather and a bizarre and intense hailstorm. I'm not sure how this impinged on turnout at the venue—I'd hope White Denim fans are a hearty bunch but I would excuse them for not driving through the blinding hail. U.K. fuzz poppers Maze were opening, too—not a shabby line-up at all. Me? I was struck with some inexplicable viruslike shivering symptoms around the same time the show was kicking into gear. A warning sign from my meteorologically-aware subconscious? Maybe. Whatever the case, I still haven't seen White Denim and I'm none too happy about it.
