While there might not be cymbals between his knees, a drum on his back or a harmonica around his neck, Shawn Rosenblatt, the sole performer behind Netherfriends, truly is a one-man band. Armed instead with a fedora and cardigan, Netherfriends took the stage at Empty Bottle on Friday, Feb 10, to promote the sophomore album Middle America. The digitally released LP comes from Rosenblatt's "50 songs, 50 states" project in which he toured all 50 states and wrote and recorded a song in each. While this album focuses on the Midwest, including track seven "Chicago, IL," there are future plans for a Sunbelt project and an East/West project.
Despite being only one person, Rosenblatt's frenetic dancing filled the stage and enthralled the young crowd. He was joined by Chicago-based bands Secret Colours and Vamos for the night, and the mixed energies of the three bands were a steal for only $8 a ticket.
