For the first time since 2008, the Gigantour hit Chicago in all of its smoky, sweaty, head-banging glory Friday night at the Aragon Ballroom.

Following the November release of Megadeth's latest (and 13th) studio album TH1RT3EN, the Los Angeles-based group is touring the country with Motorhead, Lacuna Coil and Volbeat for the rest of the month. With a discography that spans a career of more than 20 years, Megadeth opened their set with "Trust" on Friday, the lead track off of their seventh studio album, Cryptic Writings. For seventy-five minutes, frontman (and former Metallica member) Dave Mustaine performed his deep, brooding vocals, inkeeping with the heavy and intense sounds coming from bandmate's Shawn Drover, Chris Broderick and David Ellefson's instruments.

Throughout the night the small space in Uptown was host to raging mosh-pits and chanting fans with fists held high. Motorhead, which got together in 1975 and has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, preceded Megadeth with a fifty-five minute set that featured a wild drum solo and raging vocals from Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister. The evening came to a roaring end with Megadeth's encore of "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Silent Scorn."
