Madeon at Lollapalooza 2012 | Photos and music review
Looking almost microscopic in front of the ultra LED screens that Perry's stage is boasting this year—having received yet another major upgrade, the stage rivals Lollapalooza's biggest—French upstart Madeon belted straight out with his big room house soundtrack. Only 18, Madeon has had what can be described as a none other than meteoric rise within the dance community, launching himself into world wide acclaim on the back of a hyperactive dance mash-up of club hits called "Pop Culture" that went viral after he uploaded it to YouTube. That same mash-up vibe came through in his set today, but without the rapid-fire ingenuity. Rather, it just felt familiar. Chart-topping dance numbers like A-Trak's Yeah Yeah Yeah's remix, reworks of Mike Snow and the boy wonder's now famous remix of "Raise Your Weapon" by deadmau5 all featured prominently. Well mixed, potent and party-rocking all, it still left little to the imagination. Drum roll breakdown, atmospherics, beat drop, fist pump, repeat. Technically solid, the 18-year-old Frenchman could have a bright future, but with so much reliance on other's hits, he needs to find himself first.

It's okay to be a show-off.
