Perth, Australia's Tame Impala (that's a mini antelope) brought heavy doses of cool psych in the midst of the sweltering heat. "You guys are fucking soldiers," frontman/guitarist Kevin Parker proclaimed to the sweaty bunch melting in front of the Sony stage after noodling through "Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind?"
Little did he know, he would have to soldier on as well: One of Parker's pedals gave out mid-set, leading to a distracting garble during many of the songs. "I"m sorry if this sounds funny, I think one of my pedals melted," he explained. But no one seemed to mind as the band bounced through a lineup of tunes from its excellent 2010 debut, Innerspeaker—a record that gives Dungen a run for its money—in a seeming blaze off with the sun. Unless you're, you know, Helios, we all know who wins that battle. But the five piece from down under was certinaly scrappy.
