GIVERS at Lollapalooza 2012 | Photos and music review

Given the way Tiffany Lamson was thrashing her ukulele on "I Saw You First," it was clear from the top of GIVERS' set this was going to be a rousing mid-day episode. Choosing to ignore early sound complications, the Lafayette, Louisianan crew leapt into "Meantime," a mid-tempo bouncer that inspired the sweat-soaked radius nearest the stage to euphorically shed a few more electrolytes. Lamson's irresistibly scraped mezzo went center-stage for the downtempo "Atlantic," as keyboardist Nick Stephan raised the status of the flute with a lighthearted woodwind solo. Singer/guitarist Taylor Guarisco's vocal duets with Lamson, especially on sweeping tunes such as "Go Out At Night," establishes the band's appreciable vocal chops and puts them within the range of sonic analogs Vampire Weekend...though substantially (and thankfully) less self-congratulatory. Fellow FIFA 12 addicts, rejoice..."Up Up Up" sent us on our way.
It's okay to be a show-off.
