Where do Kidzapalooza kids go when they grow up? Apparently to the Google Play stage to groove with rapper/DJ duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. To be honest, the crowd for this early Sunday set was younger than most of the parent-filled crowds at Kidza this weekend.
Macklemore knows his audience all too well, doing an age-check on anyone born in the '70s and '80s before shouting, "Where are my '90s babies?" to resounding screams and waves.
The rapper gave his "babies" a history lesson, throwing on a stonewashed, fringe-covered jean jacket with an airbrushed David Bowie on the back and rhyming about the '80s. Lewis reinforced the flashback by mixing in chant-inducing hooks from the Killers and Lolla headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of Macklemore's recordings, but he sold it as a live performer, bringing the crowd to a boiling point on "Irish Celebration," with help from Lewis and a hip-hop bugle player that was part Sgt. Pepper's, part LMFAO.
It's okay to be a show-off.
