Recharged funk heartthrob D'Angelo fancies himself a guitar slinger these days, stretching out live with woozy R&B workouts. Twelve years since he last swept town, he’s back on a soulful bill with Mary J. Blige and Melanie Fiona at United Center September 13. The Old Town School of Folk Music released its fall schedule, which went on sale this morning, boasting a strong slate of concerts featuring Cassandra Wilson, Tinariwen, Robyn Hitchcock, Meshell Ndegeocello and São Paulo Underground among others. Symphony Center also announced its 2012–2013 jazz series (on sale next Friday), which includes evenings with Sonny Rollins, Brad Mehldau and Wayne Shorter. Other big gigs of note include Congress Theater concerts from Matt and Kim and Kendrick Lamar, plus an Empty Bottle date with reformed postrock forerunner Bitch Magnet.
