Exclusive: Lollapalooza to make Tel Aviv debut in 2013
Lollapalooza Tel Aviv will debut in 2013 in the weeks after Lollapalooza Chicago, festival founder Perry Farrell confirmed in an exclusive interview with Time Out on the eve of the 2012 Chicago festival. The expansion is part of a strategy to seek out new territories hungry for large-scale music festivals, following up on recently launched Lollapalooza events in Chile and Brazil.
Could Asia could prove to be fertile ground for further Lolla expansion? Farrell indicated he and the C3 Presents brain trust may be thinking along those lines. But when asked if the Chicago festival would follow in Coachella's footsteps and expand to two consecutive weekends—or perhaps even launch an ocean cruise like Coachella is doing—Farrell said Lollapalooza's focus remains on expanding into fresh international markets.
For more, including Farrell's thoughts on how much lineup overlap there will be between Lollapalooza Chicago and the new Lolla Tel Aviv, watch our video interview.
