Axwell at North Coast Music Festival | Photos and music review
Directly following Paul Oakenfold’s set to headline the Red Bull Stage Friday night was the Swedish DJ, remixer, record producer and record-label owner Axwell. Having gained notoriety as a former third of the Swedish House Mafia trifecta (along with Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello,) Axwell went on to establish himself by producing remixes for other artists, such as Usher's "Burn"; Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous" and Madonna's "Jump."
Having made his name in the gay club scene in Europe, Axwell’s nonchalantly catchy deep-house mixes were underpinned by upbeat warmth, as evidenced by tracks like “Feel the Vibe” and “Nothing But Love.” Fans swarmed towards the stage in droves, striding in to get up as close as possible to the high-octane dance party that saw many concert-goers dancing on others’ shoulders and even scaling trees for a better view. Intermittent billows of smoke jettisoned from the stage as ethereal keyboards climbed. Deeper beats were marked by bursts of fire from the six automatic torches flanking the stage. The markedly positive tracks absorbed the joy of the pulsating crowd, seemingly giving off as much energy to the Red Bull Stage attendees as they put in.
