Best of Glitterguts.com, December 2011 loft parties edition | Photos
Rather than an end of the year best-of, our chums at the nightlife photobooth site extraordinaire glitterguts.com sent us highlights from late-in-2011 loft parties. Never been, huh? Eric "Labrat" of glitterguts.com had this to say about the atmosphere:
"Loft and warehouse parties aren't perfect. Fights break out, people pee in public because there aren't enough bathrooms and they bang in front of you because... it's fun. There's a good chance you'll have to help some underagers carry their bestie into a cab, and some fairly unsympathetic cops are likely to send you home before whoever you actually came to see goes on. But they're the lifeblood of the music and arts scenes in this city, and they're making a resurgence."
Below, Labrat tells us more about the December parties he documented.
• DJ Zebo's Hot Dog Records hosted encased at a warehouse in Roscoe Village, with sets from Marco Morales, Kid Color, Michael Serafini and a host of others.
• Man-about-town Fester thew a birthday bash for himself at a former ballet-studio in Humboldt Park, with industrial burlesque acts Ammunition, Lady Jack, and Shana Von Gabor, plus dj sets, and Mexican-American classic rock cover bands The Lizard Kings and Zeppia.
• Local clothing companies Headlinerz and Ends/Wealth Corporation threw the post-Thanksgiving party FUCK YO JIVE TURKEY in a Pilsen warehouse space (one that doubles as a TV studio working on a web-only puppet show) featuring music from Ghetto Division and Skyler Mendoza.
• Quennect Four joined forces with the Gala and OCCRAC (Occupy Chi Rebel Arts Collective) for a benefit for Occupy Chicago at the truly indescribable/uncategorizable Wicker Park art loft Multi Kulti, featuring poetry readings by Kevin Coval and Jamilah Woods, a pop-up DIY market, a sustainable fashion show, and avant-garde hip-hop jazz ensemble Organic Flow.
