Spring Awakening Music Festival | Update

While those who've been holding their breath in anticipation of a summer '12 appearance from Parisian electro-funk pioneers Daft Punk can finally breathe out, it won't be a sight of relief. At least not from the looks of the lineup for June's Spring Awakening Music Festival, which announced dates, location and an initial lineup earlier today.

Sponsored by React Events, the bigwig party promoters behind Congress Theater, the Mid and North Coast Music Festival, Spring Awakening is still going to be a raucous, rave-ready two-day bacchanalia going down on the Stadium Green of Soldier Field on June 16 and 17. Billed as Chicago's first all-dance music festival, the outdoor dance party is an upgrade of an event that's sold out the Congress the past two years. Expanding the variety of acts, opening it up to all ages and spreading it out over two days, React is essentially book-ending the summer with two quality EDM-centric outdoor events (North Coast takes place each Labor Day weekend). Kudos.

And while the rumors of a headlining spot from Daft Punk seem to be false, the other artists that were speculated to be on the bill were spot-on. Headlining slots go to dubstep megastar Skrillex and Dutch house favorite Afrojack. Other noteworthy acts include a DJ set from techy originator Moby, bass monsters Flux Pavillion, hipster DJ favorites Diplo and A-Trak, trance kingpin Ferry Corsten and electro don Wolfgang Gartner.

Deeper in the lineup but also of note are San Fran house maestro Claude VonStroke, Chicago's own Derrick Carter and Green Velvet, moombahton rebel Dillon Francis and dubstep beauties from Down Under, Nervo.

The press release does make note of a second announcement coming soon, offering a glimmer of hope for true believers that the robotic masked duo from France may still be announced, but either way this festival—while not exactly in spring—is shaping up to be a great addition to another music-filled Chicago summer.
