If the onslaught of bands that sound born-and-raised in the blogosphere disturbs you—and you could have seen a few of those this weekend in Union Park—then there were and are other options. One is to go back to the bands that earned their keep before the internet when one had to slog through pointless tours, expensive recording sessions and dozens of zine teardowns before reaching the lower rungs of college radio. Do I sound nostalgic? Maybe a little bit. Soundgarden, reformed Seattle rockers who burst forth into the Top 40 in the wake of Nirvana, are back on the road and—if last year's Lollapalooza performance was an indication—quite close to the crest of their performing career. TOC was mostly installed at Pitchfork this weekend, but we managed to slip out for a few to snap Chris Cornell and the gang at UIC Pav. They don't build 'em like this anymore, do they?
It's okay to be a show-off.
