This Baltimore duo's shoegaze-scented indie seemed like the perfect kickoff to the weekend. Then the guitar problems began. Jenn Wasner's amp blew out on the first tune, then as soon as the two-piece resumed it turned out her pedal board was the culprit. "Will you guys still love me even if I'm cursed?" she asked the impressively attentive and well-behaved crowd, which roared with a sympathetic burst of applause. The answer was yes, unanimously. No wonder Merge threw its weight behind these guys: They're like a cuddlier Dinosaur Jr., with Wasner's smoky vocals undoubtedly melting a few young hearts. Meanwhile, multi-instrumentalist Andy Stack worked overtime, pounding drums with his right hand and plucking keyboard bass with his left. Talk about a power duo.
