Can we really call a band The Doors without lizard king Jim Morrisson swinging the microphone and strutting around in his leather trousers? Well, some do, but the current tour is tastely called Manzarek–Krieger, not the Doors. Actual Doors Ray Manzerek and Robby Krieger are carrying on the legacy of the L.A. band (one of the most divisive classic rock bands among rock fans and critics)—while drummer John Densmore has sat out the reunions (he did, evidently, record a new song with Manzerek/Krieger this year). While I wish I had seen the Doors with the Cult's Ian Astbury fronting the band, I don't know if I feel so heartbroken about missing the Manzarek–Krieger tour. I do, however, plan on tracking down the first Doors album soon, which is suddenly namechecked by all the hep cats playing guitar in the underground. What's the weirdest thing about the Manzarek–Krieger tour—and most of the Doors-related tours of the past decade? Bass. The Doors with bass?
