The Cool Kids deliver a winter anthem to their home town—or possibly Minneapolis. TV on the Radio miniaturizes its ideas, sound.

“Will Do”
TV on the Radio
Dave Sitek has become a sought-after producer for hipster-hop rappers, Brooklyn acts and Scarlett Johansson. He’s even playing bass in Jane’s Addiction now. Oddly, his main gig, TV on the Radio, has started to sound thinner and thinner on each release. “Will Do” is the band’s most accessible tune to date, an arty R&B love song, but the instruments sound miniaturized, as if being optimized for the paper speakers in a MacBook Air. The guitars are so digitized, it’s hard to tell if there’s even a real one playing. Soap-opera strings are slapped on in a lame attempt at ambition. Turns out TVOTR really does want to get on the radio.
