Atlas Sound feat. Noah Lennox
So much modern indie music now comes cocooned in a cloud of reverb, sighing, childhood rhymes and nostalgia, we can’t help but think most twentysomethings want nothing more than to curl into a fetal position. Bradford Cox, frontman of Deerhunter, pushes his winsome falsetto even further into an amniotic haze on his solo project, Atlas Sound. “What did you want to see / What did you want to be when you grew up,” Cox repeatedly asks with downy innocence. Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox—a guy who calls himself Panda Bear—drops to smear his harmonies around like finger paint. Aside from their echoing oohs and ahs, there’s little more than a broken-record loop of an ice-cream man’s organ. It feels like getting stuck on a merry-go-round in 1966, riding fiberglass Phil Spectors. Or resting your head in Mom’s lap.
